The Canadian government is trying to resettle at least 40,000 Afghan citizens as soon as possible through a special resettlement program in this country. Those Afghans who have helped and cooperated with the Canadian government in Afghanistan are the priority for transfer and asylum in this country.

In this article, in addition to providing information regarding the request for resettlement or asylum of Afghans cooperating with the Canadian government, an effort has been made to enable those eligible to apply to this country personally by reading this article.

General resettlement conditions

A total of 18,000 people will be transferred to Canada during this special resettlement program. Qualified Afghan citizens can apply for this program from Afghanistan and submit their documents in stages. To be eligible for this special program, applicants must be citizens of Afghanistan, not be legally prevented from entering Canada, not be inadmissible to this country, have an important and stable relationship with the Canadian government, and have done valuable work for this country. and have been in Afghanistan on or after July 22, 2021 (the start date of this special program). By fulfilling the mentioned conditions, the applicants’ application for the special resettlement program in Canada cannot be accepted.

If the applicant or his family members left Afghanistan before July 22, 2021, you are not eligible for this program. But those people who have already left Afghanistan, do not need to return to Afghanistan to qualify, apply, provide biometric information, get a medical examination and during their work stages.

Who is eligible for a humanitarian visa?

Local employees who are currently or have previously worked at the Canadian Embassy or military units of the government of this country in Afghanistan, people who have worked with institutions or projects related to Canada or in some way officially for the purposes and purposes of the Canadian government in Afghanistan are eligible to immigrate. They are special for Canada.

Eligible family members

A spouse or partner and dependent children under the age of 22 are eligible for resettlement with Afghans cooperating with the Government of Canada. In addition, under this special program, the Canadian government allows its Afghan colleagues to bring dependent grandchildren under the age of 22 and real relatives who are dependent on the family for emotional or financial reasons to Canada.

Online Application

People who have helped the Canadian government in Afghanistan and are eligible for this special program can apply online to be included in the resettlement process in this country. To send the application, the applicant goes to this  link  and fills the online forms. The method of filling the forms is such that when the main page opens, the applicant is asked “in what circumstances are you contacting us?”

I’m an Afghan national who worked with the Canadian Armed Forces

I’m an Afghan national whose employment involved a significant or enduring relationship with the Government of Canada

I’m an Afghan interpreter who worked with the Canadian Armed Forces and was resettled to Canada under either the special immigration program (in 2009 or 2012) AND I want to support a member of my extended family in Afghanistan, or in a precarious situation elsewhere

For the first question, if the applicants have worked with the Canadian military forces, the first option, if they have worked with Canadian institutions and projects, the second option, and if those interpreters who immigrated to Canada between 2009 and 2012 and now send their family members to Canada wants to choose the third option.

In the second question, the applicant chooses the first option to answer this question. If the competent representative sends the request to the applicant, he chooses the second option and if another person sends the request on behalf of the applicant, he chooses the third option of the form. Except for the first option, any other option that is selected, it is necessary for the applicant to go to this link  and then to this link and fill out the special forms to qualify his representative and upload these forms with other documents in the online system. .

Next, the applicant enters all his/her information such as job title, job position, relevant institution, identification number, if possible, Canadian name and contact information in the form and uploads the documents that show that the applicant has worked with the Canadian government. The applicant’s passport and the passport of each eligible family member traveling with the applicant (if possible) are uploaded. At this stage, the stamp or copies of the passport and work documents that show that the applicant has worked with the Canadian government are uploaded in this online system, and the applicant does not send any other documents or photos until he is asked.

At the end and after uploading the files, now click on Review Your Request. If all the forms are filled in correctly, another page will be opened where all the information provided will be displayed. The applicant reviews the information again and ensures its accuracy.

If the information is correct, the option  (I’ve read and understand the above consent and disclaimer) will be checked. This means that you have voluntarily entered your personal information here and you have decided to provide it to the Canadian government. The Canadian government may also use this information wherever necessary in an effort to protect the privacy of the applicant.

After completing the forms, the applicant clicks on Submit Your Request to send the request.

Important application points

• Enter your information honestly.
• Enter your family information by name and date of birth.
• Introduce yourself in a maximum of 1500 words and explain the risks you are aware of by helping the Canadian government.
• Send your documents in one of the formats DOC, DOCX, PDF, JPG, TIFF or PNG.
• You can upload a maximum of five documents, including your passport and work documents.
• The maximum size of the documents you upload should be 4.5 MB.

Should I apply again?

People who have already applied once do not need to re-apply. Only people who have already sent an application and now their status has changed or add new information or documents to their application, can go to this link  and update their application by entering their previous information.

The applicant’s request has been sent to the Canadian government and will be reviewed. If the applicant is eligible, the Government of Canada will contact the applicant for the next application process. All applications previously submitted by asylum seekers from Afghanistan are now being processed.

What happens after the application is reviewed?

At this point, the Canadian government has not explained exactly what will happen to the applicant’s application. But it is expected that the Canadian government will contact all the eligible people at every stage and give more guidance considering their conditions. The applicant’s request may lead to an interview at the political representation or embassy of Canada in one of the countries and eventually lead to immigration and resettlement in Canada.

I intend to go to a third country, what should I do?

If you intend to leave Afghanistan, it is necessary to get full information about the conditions of travel to the countries you intend to enter. In addition to a passport, you need a visa to legally enter the destination country. It is important to know and follow the immigration laws of the countries you are planning to enter. Otherwise, you may be detained, unable to travel from that country to Canada, or sent back to Afghanistan. Such an event can make it more difficult to get travel assistance to Canada or any other country you plan to live in.
